Because peace of mind should come with every paw print.

Rabbit-1.png

Rabbit insurance can be a valuable investment in your rabbit’s health and your peace of mind. Veterinary care for rabbits can be costly, especially in the case of emergencies or chronic conditions, and unlike cats and dogs, rabbit-specific care requires exotic veterinarians and specialists.

Insurance or discount plans can help offset the cost of exams, diagnostics, procedures, and medications, making it easier to provide the level of care your rabbit deserves. On this page, you'll find information about available rabbit insurance options, average costs, and how to decide whether insurance is the right choice for your bunny.

Being prepared to cover your rabbit’s veterinary expenses is an important part of responsible rabbit care. One of the best ways to stay ahead is by exploring pet insurance options before any health concerns arise. In the U.S., Nationwide Pet Insurance is currently the only provider offering rabbit insurance coverage across all 50 states.

This side-by-side comparison can help you decide which level of coverage is the best fit for your rabbit’s needs.

UNDERSTANDING PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS IN RABBIT INSURANCE:

One of the most important—and often frustrating—parts of pet insurance is how pre-existing conditions are handled. Insurance providers, including Nationwide, generally will not cover any condition that existed before the start of a policy or during its waiting period. The definition of a pre-existing condition may be broader than many pet owners expect, so it's essential to read the fine print and ask questions before enrolling.

PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS

Any condition for which:
•  A veterinarian provided medical advice for
• The pet received treatment for
• The pet displayed signs or symptoms consistent with the stated condition prior to the effective date of a pet             insurance policy or during any waiting period.

EXAMPLE OF NATIONWIDE RABBIT

INSURANCE IN ACTION:

This real-life example highlights how rabbit insurance can significantly reduce the financial burden of emergency veterinary care. Oreo, a senior rabbit, experienced a serious gastrointestinal issue and required hospitalization. Thanks to coverage through Nationwide, his family was reimbursed for the majority of the treatment cost—demonstrating the value of being prepared for unexpected health events.

Rabbit: Ileus(GI stasis)
Oreo, a 9-year-old male rabbit, was seen for abdominal pain, lethargy, and inappetence. He was diagnosed with ileus.

Oreo was hospitalized for emergency treatment and supportive care.

  • Eligible Veterinary Expenses: $3,330

  • Annual Deductible: $250

  • 10% Co-Pay: $308

  • Total Reimbursement: $2,772

HOW RABBIT

INSURANCE WORKS:

Using rabbit insurance is simpler than you might think. Just take your rabbit to any licensed veterinarian for treatment, pay for the services at the time of the visit, and then submit a claim to your insurance provider. Claims can typically be submitted through a mobile app, email, fax, or traditional mail. After your annual deductible is met, you’ll receive reimbursement based on the plan you selected. This process helps make unexpected vet visits more affordable while ensuring your bunny gets the care they need.
