Adopting a rabbit is a serious, long-term commitment—not a spontaneous decision. At Kribs for Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary, we want every adopter to be fully informed and prepared before bringing a rabbit into their home. Rabbits are intelligent, sensitive animals with complex needs and lifespans of 10 to 14 years.

Our adoption guidelines are in place to ensure each rabbit is placed in a safe, loving, and appropriate environment where they can thrive. Please read the following information carefully to determine if adopting a rabbit is the right fit for your household and lifestyle.

Not rules—just a roadmap to a happy adoption.

Thank you for your interest in giving a rescued rabbit a loving home! Before you complete the Adoption Application, please carefully review the important information provided below.

  • Rabbits are not low-maintenance pets and require a long-term commitment of 10 to 14 years. They have specific care needs that must be met daily to ensure their health, happiness, and well-being.

  • Despite common misconceptions, rabbits are NOT pets for children. They are delicate animals that require gentle handling and consistent care. For this reason, the primary caregiver for the adopted rabbit must be an adult (21 years or older).

  • All rabbits must be housed and exercised indoors in a climate-controlled area of your home. If a porch is used for playtime, it must be fully screened and have fencing at least 36 inches high from the floor to ensure safety.

  • Rabbits are highly social animals that thrive on companionship. While human interaction is valuable, it cannot fully replace the comfort and enrichment of a bonded rabbit friend. Because of this, many of our rabbits are adopted in bonded pairs. The adoption fee is $100 for a single rabbit or $150 for a bonded pair.

    • On average, it costs $300 per rabbit to prepare them for adoption. This includes veterinary visits, spay/neuter procedures, necessary treatments, and vaccinations. While our adoption fee helps cover a portion of these costs, additional donations are always greatly appreciated to support our rescue efforts.

  • In addition to the adoption fee, the initial setup cost for a rabbit is approximately $200. This includes essential supplies such as an exercise pen (X-pen enclosure), carrier, litter box, food and water bowls, pellets, hay, treats, and toys. To ensure you purchase the safest and most appropriate supplies for your rabbit’s age, breed, and needs, we recommend consulting with us before making any purchases. This helps prevent unnecessary expenses and avoids potentially harmful items.

  • Our rescued rabbits deserve lifelong, loving homes. If you ever find yourself unable to care for your adopted rabbit, they must be returned to Kribs For Kritters Rabbit Rescue and Sanctuary. We do not permit adopters to rehome our rabbits independently under any circumstances. We are always willing to take our rabbits back to ensure they continue to receive proper care.
